Our time in Rome came at the tail end of an 18-day European adventure that crossed three countries, four major cities, three holidays, one Jubilee, three trains, two planes, countless taxis, and more steps than we could possibly track. By the time we reached the Trevi Fountain, after navigating the crowds at the Pantheon, we almost turned back. But just as we hesitated, the crowd shifted, gently carried us forward, and suddenly we were standing there, face to face with one of the most famous fountains in the world, freshly restored just days before our arrival. Sometimes standing still and riding the human wave takes you exactly where you’re meant to be.
